Beyond the Jobsite: Educating the Next Generation at St. Thomas Aquinas Earth Day
At APH Marine Construction, our commitment to South Florida’s waterfront extends far beyond the jobsite. Recently, Vice President Art Tiedman and Waterfront Sales Consultant Brandon Veliky attended the St. Thomas Aquinas High School Earth Day event to educate students on the importance of seawall construction, waterfront infrastructure, and environmental sustainability across Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal waterways. Throughout the event, students learned how properly engineered seawalls help protect homes, businesses, and shorelines from erosion, flooding, and wave energy. The APH team also discussed the growing role of hybrid seawall systems and how modern marine construction is evolving to better support long-term coastal resilience. One of the highlights of the presentation was showcasing innovative mangrove planter systems designed to encourage marine ecosystem growth along seawalls and waterfront properties. These planters help create habitats for oysters, barnacles, mangroves, and other marine life that naturally improve water quality and strengthen South Florida’s coastal environment. By combining marine construction with environmental awareness, APH Marine Construction continues working toward a future where waterfront development and ecological responsibility go hand in hand. Events like St. Thomas Aquinas Earth Day give us the opportunity to inspire the next generation while sharing the importance of protecting and improving our local waterways. At APH, we believe building stronger shorelines also means building stronger communities.
