The Bix Project began as a planned concrete cap raise in Lighthouse Point on an aging waterfront rock wall system. During pre-construction discussions, APH Marine Construction identified concerns regarding the structural integrity of the existing wall and advised the owner of the potential risks associated with performing upgrades on deteriorated infrastructure. While the original intent was to preserve the existing wall, conditions changed quickly once construction began.
After installation of the first piling, the existing rock wall began to fail and separate, requiring the project team to rapidly pivot from a cap raise repair into a complete seawall replacement solution. APH Marine Construction seamlessly adapted the project scope in real time, implementing a new Truline Hybrid Seawall system while simultaneously managing the instability and removal of portions of the failing wall throughout the construction process. Despite the challenging site conditions, the team successfully achieved full panel penetration for the new seawall installation, creating a structurally secure shoreline system engineered for long-term waterfront protection. The seawall and concrete components were reinforced using MST GFRP fiberglass rebar, a non-corrosive reinforcement system specifically selected for durability in South Florida’s harsh saltwater environment. Following completion of the seawall system, APH Marine Construction constructed a new composite dock designed to compliment both the waterfront and future backyard improvements. Once the marine construction scope was complete, the property underwent a full landscape and backyard restoration, significantly enhancing the curb appeal and overall waterfront value of the home. The property sold shortly after project completion. This project highlights the importance of adaptive problem-solving in marine construction and demonstrates APH Marine Construction’s ability to quickly respond to unforeseen site conditions while delivering a long-lasting waterfront infrastructure solution.
